Behind the Lens: Your Omaha Wedding Photographer

Hello! I am Lauren Thomas, the lead photographer and owner of Deerfoot Thomas Photography. I live in Omaha, Nebraska and photograph Most days, you will find me at home cozying up to a book or out with my family staying active. I am a new mother of a baby boy as of April 2023 (he’s turning 1 this month, agh!), and the experience of motherhood has been a meaningful journey that I am genuinely proud to be embarking on. I am definitely the type of person to make to-do lists each day… and finish half of the tasks most days. I am a nerd for stationary; back-to-school shopping used to be my favorite time of the year.

My husband got me into Star Wars, so one of my new character crushes is Kylo Ren. I wish I could say we were cool and tried new foods, but we are such homebodies, we are usually at home watching a new movie or tv show. My celebrity crush is The Weeknd, who has such a beautiful face and voice. If you’re actually reading this, you should definitely let me know your character and celebrity crushes too!

My passion for photographing weddings blossomed from a deep appreciation for capturing the joy, love, and meaningful moments shared between couples on their special day. At Deerfoot Thomas Photography, our goal is to ensure that you not only receive stunning photographs but also savor every moment of marrying your best friend. One valuable piece of advice often given to engaged couples in the midst of wedding planning is to carefully outline the most important categories for their wedding day. Taking this wisdom to heart, I made sure to prioritize and focus on the top three priorities when organizing my own special celebration of love.

At 20 years old, within the first year of the world shutting down, my top priorities were photography and an adventurous honeymoon. I got married to my husband at the courthouse with 9 family members as witnesses (they were still limiting crowds to under 10 there) followed by lunch at Olive Garden. A couple weeks later, we went on our honeymoon to Saint George, Utah where I had a brilliantly, talented friend photograph our belated engagement photos and bridal photos in Snow Canyon State Park. Talk about a gorgeous background. The rest of our honeymoon consisted of hiking in the park and through the caves, as well as going to a smash room. We made our wedding and honeymoon experience uniquely US.

As your wedding photographer, I am not just behind the lens capturing moments but your biggest cheerleader, empowering you to bring your dream wedding to life. My goal is to support you every step of the way, ensuring your special day is nothing short of being YOURS. I am down to bring your ideas to life, whether it be to nail that veil shot you have on Pinterest, get married in an unusual venue, or catering Taco Bell for dinner (I’d love you forever, hehe).

One of the coolest things of running my own business is I get to make the rules and serve who I want. I take pride in capturing the beauty and love of all couples, and I work with couples of all genders and sexual orientations. Not only do I love connecting and photographing you during this special part of your life, but I also thrive in empowering you every step of the way through the journey of wedding planning.
