Must Have Details for Your Flat Lay Wedding Photos

One simple way I document your wedding is by taking detail photos, which are the photos that aren’t just focused on capturing people, but also highlighting the intricate details that make up your special day. Before the venues are bustling with the presence of your loved ones, I arrive early to capture the essence of your ceremony and reception spaces with images that showcase the decorations in all their glory. I take great care in photographing the delicate intricacies of your dress, the sparkle of your jewelry, and the symbolic beauty of your rings.

One beautiful way to capture your wedding items is in the form of a flat lay. A wedding flat lay is comprised of a number of your items are arranged on a surface and then photographed from above.

Here is a list of things you may want to include in your wedding flat lay:

  1. Engagement and wedding rings (of both partners)

  2. Invitations (include a couple if they are double sided)

  3. Shoes

  4. Other Jewelry (necklace, earrings, bracelet, wedding hair comb)

  5. Wedding veil

  6. Flowers (ask your florist for some loose flowers)

  7. Perfume or cologne

  8. Watch

  9. Tie

  10. Vow books

  11. Cuff links

  12. Ring box (I have one if you don’t end up getting your own)

  13. Any other items that scream your personality or have sentimental value, like crazy socks, flask, something blue, etc.

Now of course, these are a suggestion of some things you may include; by no means do you not to have every single item for your wedding flat lay photos.

One last important tip to ensure we capture the best flat lay photos is to set aside a dedicated time slot for your photographer to focus on these specific shots. Typically I take these photos while you are in the final stages of your hair and makeup preparations, just before the hustle and bustle begins. Allotting around 30 minutes for this task allows me to meticulously curate and capture every intricate detail that adds a touch of elegance to your special day. Save time and stress by gathering your details and set them aside in a box to give your photographer when they arrive.
